 Re·trench v. t. [imp. & p. p. Retrenched p. pr. & vb. n. Retrenching.]
 1. To cut off; to pare away.
    Thy exuberant parts retrench.   --Denham.
 2. To lessen; to abridge; to curtail; as, to retrench superfluities or expenses.
