 Mo·rin n. Chem. A yellow crystalline substance (C15H10O7) of acid properties extracted from fustic (Chlorophora tinctoria syn. Maclura tinctoria, formerly called Morus tinctoria); -- called also moric acid and natural yellow 8.  It is used as a dye for wool, giving a color from lemon yellow through olive to olive brown, depending on the metal with which it is mordanted.

 Mo·rin·tan·nic a.  Chem. Pertaining to, or designating, a variety of tannic acid extracted from fustic (Chlorophora tinctoria,  formerly Maclura tinctoria and Morus tinctoria) as a yellow crystalline substance; -- called also maclurin.

 Fus·tic n.  The wood of the Maclura tinctoria, a tree growing in the West Indies, used in dyeing yellow; -- called also old fustic. [Written also fustoc.]
 Note:Other kinds of yellow wood are often called fustic; as that of species of Xanthoxylum, and especially the Rhus Cotinus, which is sometimes called young fustic to distinguish it from the Maclura. See Fustet.
